Overview
This guide will walk you through updating both the Energy Management System (EMS) and the Battery Management System (BMS) firmware on the C12460A battery using the Epoch Li-Ion app. Carefully follow all steps to avoid interruptions or possible update failures.
- Estimated Installation Time: 5–10 minutes
- Important: Keep your mobile device unlocked and near the battery throughout the process. Moving out of Bluetooth range or allowing your phone to lock might interrupt the update.
Requirements
- A smartphone or tablet (iOS or Android) with a stable internet connection.
- The Epoch Li-Ion app installed (available on Apple iOS and Android).
- The C12460A battery and its included wiring harness.
Preliminary Steps
1. Download and Install the Epoch Li-Ion App
- Download the app (available on Apple iOS and Android).
- Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation.
2. Connect the Wiring Harness
- Locate the wiring harness included with your battery.
- Securely connect it to the C12460A battery.
3. Power the Battery On
- Turn on the battery to activate its Bluetooth signal in preparation for the firmware update.
Establish Bluetooth Connection
1. Launch the Epoch Li-Ion App
- Open the app on your mobile device.
- Grant any Bluetooth permissions requested.
- Android Users: Enable Location Services if prompted (required for optimal Bluetooth scanning).
2. Locate the Battery on the Bluetooth Page
- Look for the device name in the format HxxEBPxxxx.
- If the battery is not listed, ensure it is powered on and Bluetooth is enabled on your device.
3. Connect to the Battery
- Tap the toggle switch beside the battery name (HxxEBPxxxx) to initiate pairing.
- Once connected, you should see a confirmation in the app.
4. Navigate to the About Page
Important Notes Before Updating Firmware
- DO NOT let your phone's screen lock or move out of Bluetooth range.
- DO NOT power off the battery manually during the update.
- Ensure both your phone and the C12460A battery have sufficient charge to avoid losing power mid-update.
Firmware Update Installation
1. LONG PRESS OTA BUTTON - A PASSWORD PROMPT SHOULD APPEAR. PASSWORD = test
- On the About page, locate and LONG PRESS OTA.
- After long pressing OTA and entering the advanced OTA setting, you will see two options for updating: EMS and BMS.
2. Select EMS Update First (IMPORTANT - EMS Must be updated prior to BMS)
- Tap the EMS option to begin downloading the firmware.
- Wait for the download to complete.
3. Start the EMS Installation
- Once the download finishes, tap Start to install the EMS firmware.
- During installation, do not exit the app or move out of range.
4. Battery Power Cycle
- After successful EMS installation, the battery will power off and restart.
- The app will briefly disconnect from Bluetooth.
5. Reconnect to the Battery
- Return to the Bluetooth tab in the app.
- Tap the toggle switch next to HxxEBPxxxx to re-establish the connection.
6. Navigate Back to the About Tab
7. Repeat the Process for BMS Update Making sure to LONG PRESS THE OTA BUTTON (Password = test) and then select BMS
- Tap OTA once more and select the BMS firmware update.
- The download will begin, and once finished, tap Start to proceed.
- Note: The progress bar may appear to stall around 60%. This is expected; you can monitor update progress on the battery’s State of Charge (SOC) meter.
- When the BMS update completes, the battery will power off again and remain powered off.
8. Finalize the Firmware Update
- Tap Finish in the app, then Confirm when prompted.
- Exit the application after completion.
Post-Update Steps
1. Wait 30 Seconds
- Allow the battery to remain off for at least 30 seconds to ensure all internal processes finalize properly.
2. Power the Battery On
- After 30 seconds, turn the battery back on.
3. Reconnect to the Application
- Relaunch the Epoch Li-Ion app.
- Tap the toggle switch next to HxxEBPxxxx on the Bluetooth page.
Troubleshooting Tips
Battery Not Appearing in the App:
- Ensure the battery is turned on.
- Confirm Bluetooth is enabled on your mobile device.
- Toggle Location Services (on Android) and restart the app.
Update Appears Stalled:
- Wait at least two minutes before taking action.
- Check SOC meter changes to monitor progress.
- If the process does not move forward after several minutes, force-close the app, reboot your device, and retry.
